The Wheel

Description

I keep going on about the Wheelverse, but I've never actually put up the Wheel Itself!

This is a stained-glass window, featured in the Temple (a place dedicated to studying and following the Aspects) as it appears at the start of the Wheelverse. This is ~20 years before canon. The metallic disks indicate where an Unknown Aspect should be. That is to say - each of the Six Wheels has six Major Aspects associated with it. Aspects are either Known (where the Temple at least knows the name and concept of the Aspect at least) or Unknown (where none have any knowledge of what the Aspect actually is - information may have been lost, or not existed in the first place).

White rims indicate that the Aspect is Embodied (has a physical form).

The Wheels in order from the top clockwise are:

The Harmonies: (Also clockwork from top) Laughter, Honesty, Kindness, Generosity and Loyalty. As this is before the Return of Nightmare Moon, the Aspect of Magic is Unknown. The Elements of Harmony themselves are powerful artifacts imbued with the power of the Wheel of Harmony - any ponies who are suitably aligned with one of the Aspects may wield them, but they usually only have one owner at a time. The Tree of Harmony is actually a Minor Aspect in its own right.
All of the Embodiments of Harmony are alicorns.
You might notice that Generosity is Embodied. I wonder if there are any alicorns around who happen to like wearing purple diamonds in their regalia. ;)

The Truths: Death, Time and Life. All three of these are Embodied. The other three are Unknown. Death is the Pale Pony, the Grim Reaper, etc etc. He appears as a bone-white earth pony, wearing the standard sort of 'reaperwear' cloak and hood combo. Sometimes he doesn't have hooves and floats along the ground. He has a scythe and manipulates it with magic, but seems to have no aura, or perhaps his aura is colourless. Time is the Timekeeper, a huge blue and gold stag with an hourglass suspended between his antlers. Life is the Artist, and from her came the plants and the animals.
All of the Embodiments of Truth have forms that reflect their true selves. They cannot consciously alter what they look like beyond minor cosmetic stuff.

The Realms: The Fields of Elysia, The Fields of Asphodel, Tartarus, The Isles of the Blessed, The Fields of Punishment, and Mortality. Drawing heavily from Greek Mythology and the show itself, three of the realms are technically the afterlife. Mortality is obviously the Normal World. Asphodel is the first stop when you die, and is basically where you go to either be reborn, or be Judged for the other places. Elysia is the good place, and Punishment is the bad. The Isles of the Blessed and Tartarus, however, are purely for Immortals. The Isles are where an Immortal can Sleep - they usually set a time or a stimulus to Wake, for example 'wake me up when the ponies invent cake' etc.
Tartarus is Prison for Gods. Basically.
The Embodiments of Realm... don't exist yet, so no one knows the rules for their forms.

The Chaotics: ...Discord? Nobody knows much about the Chaotics at all. It is said that they were all very active at the beginning of the world, but while Discord was Sealed away, the others disappeared. They might be slumbering in the Isles, also sealed away, or hanging out in the most remote parts of the world beyond the view of Equestria and the Temple.
The Embodiments of Chaos are probably all weird chimaeric creatures with a penchant for shapeshifting and visual gags. Probably.

The Evils: Knowing, Apathy, Loss, Power, Rage and Want. Now, while individually these Aspects aren't usually too bad, engaging with all of them is how you get to cast Dark Magic. You have to have the Knowledge of what you want to do - like most spells, really. You have to Want something - usually this slides neatly in beside Power. Feelings of Loss and Rage fuel the Dark Magic, and finally you need to have Apathy for anyone who will be affected by the spells you cast. This may range from side-effects of merely being present, to being a victim of the spell.
The Evils are also dangerous to the other immortals - Luna, for example, was consumed by Want (her envy of Celestia) - and became Nightmare Moon. Neither Luna nor her alter-ego are the Embodiment of Want, though.
Apathy is the only Aspect where I'm not sure about the Embodiment. At the moment, it's Grogar, I mean spooky magic Ram Necromancer? Got to be. I'm hoping that he actually turns up as a villain in the show so I can see if I've pegged his character correctly or if I should ignore the canon personality completely. Also the design. It would help to have a show-official design.
Power is Tirek. He siphons it off other beings, and that's basically all he wants to do.
Loss is Scorpan. Scorpan himself isn't evil - although he did start out that way. Scorpan is Known, but lives off back in his Homeland.
Rage is the Great Roc. She's kind of important to the characters in the first bit of Wheelverse - Glinting Roc, the protagonist, is one of her granddaughters. Great Roc is sort of 50/50 on the Evil thing. Most of the time she lives somewhere Far Away, but visits Equestria and the neighbouring countries every few years to seduce a griffon or two. The Rage sect at the Temple is by far the largest of the Evils because of the frequency of griffons born with the Roc's Eyes is very high compared to say, finding a connection to Power and not joining a cult. On the other hand, the Great Roc is also responsible for the Windigoes, so.
Knowing and Want are not yet Embodied.
The Embodiments of Evil change to what they want to look like, within a certain range of change (colours, if they're a pony it's whether or not they want to present as an alicorn or one of the three tribes and their rough build etc), and also tend to grow larger or more impressive the more energy they have.. Tirek, for example, appears old and frail when dry of magic, but when he gains power he becomes bigger and younger.

The Energies: Creation, Water, Earth, Destruction, Fire and Air. This is, in fact, the only complete Wheel. Given that the magic of the Wheel of Energy is easy to tap into (and in fact makes up the majority of pony magic in varying degrees), it is also the most studied of the Wheels.
Creation and Destruction are Maker and Ender, who are mostly just a pair of blobs that are never separated from each other. Creation glows white with magical light, while Ender is basically a black hole, and the pair of them are in an equal equilibrium. They collaborated with the Artist in making the world, basically.
Water is Pisca. Rarely seen by land-dwellers, she lives in the oceans and manages the marine life. Sometimes, though, she is spotted in rivers and lakes, and it seems that by ducking beneath, she can resurface anywhere that has water.
The Embodiments of Energy don't really have a set form - their appearance changes for everyone that sees them.
On the whole, Pisca is seen as fish-like, with iridescent scales and a sleek, muscular body. She might have fins, she might be a plesiosaur, or she could be a sea-pony. Everyone agrees that she's beautiful and swift in her element.
Earth is Terra, who took the creatures that the Artist had made and shaped them into the speaking ungulates. Ponies, deer, buffalo, zebras, donkeys, cows, and probably more besides. As a result, all of the sapient hooved animals are generally referred to as Terra's Brood. He tends to appear as something as tall as a mountain. Usually he looks like a very strong stallion, bull, or stag, and always has multiple sets of horns and/or antlers. Some say he's made of rock, and others see him with a bountiful forest growing from his back,  some say it's overflowing in wondrous and exotic plantlife.
Ig is the Aspect of Fire, and he is the father of dragons, of the five Chimaerae, and of the now extinct Fire Lions who progenated the griffons with the Great Roc. After the Fire Lions died, he began to withdraw from the world. He quarreled with a number of his Minor Aspect children - most notably of which was Char, the first unicorn - and Sealed a lot of them away. He realised that he was going down a really bad path (because he was not the first) and went to take a nap in the Isles before he was consumed by Loss the way Luna would be consumed by Want many centuries later. While he's been there ever since so no one quite knows his normally percieved form, most old accounts record a lion with a flaming mane and draconic scales. Some mention a dragon, and there's one anecdote of him appearing to a pony as a candleflame.
Air is Skybird, and he is the father of the Great Roc and a bunch of other Minor Aspects of things to do with the sky, like Stormraven (who gave wings to ponies to produce the pegasi). He has the most variation in looks - it seems that he can appear as any sort of bird, usually the viewer's favourite. Great feats of aerial skill draw him in, and he is quite likely to grant boons, or check for and trigger potential Ascensions if he's really impressed. He's probably got the most amount of Minor Aspects following him, from his multiple children to his many 'adopted' ones. He's like an insanely powerful broody hen. *cough*Oh hey something relevant from ages ago.*cough*

*falls to the floor, dead* Well that took 2 hours to type out, wow. Anyone got any questions about the Wheelverse and/or the Aspects? Any guesses about the missing ones or who will become the yet-to-be Embodied Aspects? :D I'll try to be as non-spoilery as possible when answering so when I do get round to making this comic there'll be plenty of surprises and plot-twists. I mean, most of the plot stuff doesn't revolve around finding the missing Aspects at all so there's loads of stuff there. I think it's just important to have the basic info out there so any potential readers don't have to just jump in blind to the lore of the world and I can stick it on the comic posts as a reference.

This is also a reference for me to remind myself what I have and haven't mentioned, and what is known in-universe too with the missing Aspects. I have, of course, drawn their circles on a layer underneath the grey just so I don't forget, heh.
